Lahore High Court Orders Recovery of Elderly Man Allegedly Confined in Mental Health Facility

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has ordered the immediate recovery and release of an elderly man who was allegedly confined to a mental health rehabilitation center by his biological children in a dispute over family property.

The case was heard by Justice Farooq Haider on a habeas corpus petition filed by the man’s adopted son, who claimed that his father was being unlawfully detained and that his life was at risk.

According to the petition, the elderly man’s biological children allegedly declared him mentally unfit and forcibly admitted him to a psychiatric rehabilitation facility in an attempt to gain control of his property and prevent him from making independent decisions regarding his assets.

After an urgent hearing, Justice Farooq Haider directed the relevant authorities to immediately recover the elderly man from the rehabilitation center and ensure his release.

The adopted son had argued before the court that his father’s confinement was illegal and motivated by a property dispute. The matter has drawn attention to concerns over the alleged misuse of mental health institutions in family inheritance conflicts.
