Breakdown Reveals Taxes, Levies, and Margins on Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan

Islamabad:A detailed breakdown of the taxes, levies, and margins included in Pakistan’s retail fuel prices has revealed that consumers are paying substantial additional charges on every litre of petrol and high-speed diesel.
According to official documents, a total of **Rs. 118.76 per litre** in taxes, levies, and various margins is included in the retail price of petrol, while **Rs. 110.65 per litre** is added to the price of high-speed diesel.
The documents show that the **base cost of petrol** is **Rs. 178.77 per litre**, while the government has fixed the retail price at **Rs. 297.53 per litre**.
The additional charges on petrol include:
* **Petroleum Levy:** Rs. 70.36 per litre
* **Climate Support Levy:** Rs. 5.00 per litre
* **Customs Duty:** Rs. 19.33 per litre
* **Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM):** Rs. 6.86 per litre
* **Oil Marketing Companies’ Margin:** Rs. 7.87 per litre
* **Dealers’ Margin:** Rs. 8.64 per litre
Similarly, the **base cost of high-speed diesel** stands at **Rs. 198.85 per litre**, while its retail price has been set at **Rs. 309.50 per litre**.
According to the documents, consumers pay a combined **Rs. 110.65 per litre** in levies, taxes, and distribution-related margins on high-speed diesel, accounting for a significant portion of the final pump price.
