Diljit Dosanjh Recalls Performing at Weddings for Modest Fees Before Rising to Stardom

Islamabad: Diljit Dosanjh has reflected on his early career struggles, revealing that he used to perform at weddings and birthday parties for modest fees due to financial hardships.

In a recent interview, the 42-year-old singer and actor said he grew up in a family facing severe financial difficulties. He recalled that there were times when his family could not even afford to visit a doctor during illness, an experience that motivated him to work hard and pursue his dreams.

Diljit said his debut album, Ishq Da Uda Ada, was released in 2002, after which he began receiving offers to perform at private events, including weddings and birthday celebrations.

He revealed that he readily accepted performances for as little as Rs5,000, Rs10,000, or Rs15,000 and never turned down an opportunity. According to the singer, live performances soon became his primary source of income.

Diljit Dosanjh added that while some senior artists in the Punjabi music industry considered performing at weddings beneath their status, he chose to seize every opportunity available. He said those early performances played a crucial role in helping him build the successful career that has made him one of India’s leading singers and actors today.
