Security Placed on High Alert in Quetta as Quetta–Karachi Highway Reopens After 24 Hours

QUETTA: Security has been placed on high alert across Quetta following a threat alert, with law enforcement agencies intensifying security measures throughout the provincial capital.

According to officials, the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC), police, and other law enforcement agencies have launched joint search operations, snap checking, and checkpoints at sensitive locations to maintain law and order.

Additional security personnel have been deployed at the city’s entry and exit points, major highways, commercial centers, markets, intersections, government buildings, and other key locations. Authorities are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles, motorcycles, and individuals, while checking national identity cards, driving licences, and vehicle registration documents.

Meanwhile, security forces have reopened the Quetta–Karachi National Highway to all types of traffic after a closure of nearly 24 hours. Passenger vehicles and freight transport have resumed operations, although strict security checks remain in place at various points along the route.

Security sources said precautionary measures have been further strengthened following the threat alert, with enhanced surveillance around sensitive installations, government offices, educational institutions, and public places. Additional personnel have also been deployed to ensure a rapid response to any emergency.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to carry their national identity cards, driving licences, vehicle registration papers, and other essential documents if they need to leave their homes to facilitate security checks.

Law enforcement agencies emphasized that the enhanced security measures are aimed at protecting lives and maintaining public order. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with security personnel at checkpoints and immediately report any suspicious individuals, unattended bags, vehicles, or unusual activities to the police, Frontier Corps, or other relevant authorities.

According to officials, the heightened security arrangements will remain in effect until further notice while the overall security situation continues to be closely monitored.
