Pakistan Begins Production from New Oil and Gas Field in Sindh

Islamabad:** Pakistan has received a boost to its energy sector as production has commenced from a major new oil and gas discovery in **Sanghar district, Sindh**, increasing the country’s domestic energy output.
The **Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL)** informed the **Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)** of the development through an official notification.
According to an OGDCL spokesperson, the newly operational well is producing **10 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMSCFD)** along with approximately **600 barrels of crude oil per day**.
OGDCL holds a **62.5% working interest** in the project, while **Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL)** owns **22.5%**, and **Orient Petroleum Limited (OPL)** holds the remaining **15%**.
The development follows the recent start of production from the **Bobi Deep-1** well in Sanghar, which is producing around **2,000 barrels of crude oil per day**.
Energy experts say the increased domestic production will help narrow Pakistan’s gap between oil and gas demand and supply, reduce dependence on imports, and save valuable foreign exchange.
