JI Leader Hidayat-ur-Rehman Says Violence, Land Grabbing and Target Killings Part of Plot to Destabilize Balochistan

QUETTA: Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan Ameer and Member of the Provincial Assembly, Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch, has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in the province, alleging that incidents of violence, attempts to seize tribal lands, and targeted killings appear to be part of a conspiracy to further destabilize Balochistan.

Speaking to media representatives and various delegations in Gwadar, the JI leader referred to recent incidents, including armed violence in different parts of the province, alleged attempts to occupy ancestral tribal lands, the shooting at an unarmed family visiting from Karachi, and the killing of prominent trader Haji Hashim Norzai. He said these incidents were worsening an already fragile security situation.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said the provincial government, relevant institutions, and law enforcement agencies could not absolve themselves of responsibility for the growing sense of insecurity among the public. He emphasized that the people of Balochistan have traditionally been known for their hospitality and respect for women, children, the elderly, and travelers, adding that the criminal actions of a few individuals should not be linked to the traditions and culture of the province.

He called on law enforcement agencies and security forces to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the recent attacks, saying that bringing the perpetrators to justice was essential to restoring public confidence and preventing similar incidents in the future.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also expressed concern over reports of attempts to occupy ancestral tribal lands in Mangla, Hanna Urak, and other parts of Balochistan. He described alleged efforts by unidentified armed groups to intimidate local communities and seize their land as unacceptable, urging the government to expose those involved, take action against their alleged supporters, and ensure the protection of local residents and their property.

Condemning the attack on the visiting family from Karachi, he demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for justice to be served. He also urged authorities to swiftly apprehend the killers of businessman Haji Hashim Norzai and ensure they receive exemplary punishment to deter future crimes.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman further urged the government to address public grievances alongside efforts to improve law and order. He called for negotiations with doctors, teachers, and other government employees to resolve their legitimate demands, saying this would help end ongoing protests and prevent further disruption to public services.

He concluded that lasting peace in Balochistan could only be achieved through the protection of life and property, the rule of law, the delivery of justice, and respect for the constitutional and democratic rights of citizens. He said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue to support all measures aimed at promoting peace, justice, and the protection of public rights while opposing injustice, lawlessness, and violations of citizens’ rights.
