Europe Gripped by Extreme Heatwave as UK Records Hottest June Day and Netherlands Issues First-Ever Red Alert

A severe heatwave continues to grip Europe, with the United Kingdom recording its hottest June day for the third consecutive day, while the Netherlands has issued its first-ever red heat alert.

According to the UK Met Office, temperatures in England climbed to 36.9°C on Friday, with forecasters warning that temperatures could rise even further in the coming days. A red heat alert remained in effect across much of England as authorities urged residents to take precautions against the extreme weather.

In the Netherlands, officials issued the country’s first-ever red heat warning as temperatures were forecast to reach 40°C. The intense heat has forced the closure of many schools as authorities seek to protect students and staff from heat-related risks.

British media reported that up to 150 million people across Europe could experience temperatures exceeding 35°C during the ongoing heatwave.

Scientists have described the current conditions as one of the most severe heatwaves Europe has experienced, highlighting growing concerns over the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events across the continent.
