Iran Rejects Trump’s Claims on Frozen Assets, Says US Exports ‘Broken Promises and Provocative Statements’
Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker and senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has rejected remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the use of Iran’s frozen assets, accusing Washington of spreading a false narrative.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Ghalibaf said the United States was creating the impression that Iran would use its unfrozen assets to purchase American agricultural products, despite there being no such agreement or plan.
Responding to Trump’s comments, Ghalibaf said sarcastically that while the United States claims Iran’s released funds will be spent on American farm products, “we are only harvesting the crop that you planted.”
He added that the “crop” consisted of decades of mistrust and was available in abundance. In a sharp criticism of Washington, Ghalibaf remarked that the United States’ apparent exports now include “genetically modified soybeans, broken promises, and provocative statements.”
The response came after President Trump stated that Iran could use funds from its unfrozen assets to purchase agricultural goods and livestock from American farmers in an effort to address food shortages in Iran.
For decades, the United States has imposed sanctions on Iranian oil exports, resulting in billions of dollars in Iranian assets being frozen in international financial institutions. Following recent diplomatic developments between the two countries, hopes have emerged that some of these assets could eventually be released.
The exchange of statements highlights the continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington despite ongoing discussions over sanctions, frozen assets, and broader bilateral issues.
