Pakistan Played Historic Role in Iran-US Understanding, Calls It Major Diplomatic Success: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described Pakistan’s role in facilitating understanding between Iran and the United States as a major diplomatic achievement, saying the country played a historic part in promoting dialogue and reducing regional tensions.

Addressing the National Assembly, the Prime Minister said it was a historic day and that he wished to brief parliament on important national developments. He stated that Pakistan continues to play an active role in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the region through sustained diplomatic engagement.

According to Shehbaz Sharif, significant progress has recently been made in talks between Iran and the United States. He said meetings between the leadership of both countries were held in Switzerland, while Pakistan helped bridge differences and support the success of the negotiation process.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan carried out its diplomatic efforts with sincerity and commitment, with negotiations continuing around the clock. He added that a joint communiqué was finalized after consultations among all parties and was subsequently endorsed by the relevant stakeholders.

He further stated that a ceasefire had been achieved between Iran and the United States and that technical-level negotiations would continue over the next 60 days. These discussions, he said, would focus on issues including the nuclear program, ballistic missile program, frozen assets, and other key matters.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement had contributed to easing tensions in the region and promoting peace and stability. He expressed hope that the current memorandum of understanding could evolve into a comprehensive and lasting agreement within the coming weeks.

Congratulating the nation, parliament, and the opposition, the Prime Minister said Pakistan had played a pivotal and historic role in the diplomatic process. He added that the country’s efforts had received international recognition and positive coverage in global media.

Calling the development a major diplomatic success, he remarked that such a positive international image could not have been achieved even through the expenditure of billions of rupees.

The Prime Minister also announced that the Iranian President was expected to arrive in Pakistan on an official visit. He said the visit would include discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, regional peace, and stability.

Emphasizing national unity, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan seeks strong and friendly relations with all neighboring countries. He also highlighted the importance of inter-provincial harmony and balanced national development, stating that the country’s progress depends on the collective advancement of all provinces.

The Prime Minister concluded by urging political forces to prioritize national unity over divisions, particularly at a time when Pakistan is pursuing important diplomatic initiatives and strengthening its regional engagement.
