Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Rebukes Mahmood Achakzai in National Assembly Amid Heated Exchange

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq delivered a strong response to Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai during a heated parliamentary session, rejecting allegations of constitutional violations and defending state institutions.

Addressing the opposition leader’s remarks, Ayaz Sadiq said he was willing to listen to criticism but challenged Achakzai to identify any specific instance in which he had violated the Constitution. The Speaker maintained that while debate is a fundamental part of parliamentary proceedings, he would not permit speeches in the National Assembly that, in his view, mirrored rhetoric used outside the house.

Referring to statements he attributed to Achakzai, the Speaker said that calls for raising a separate force from every household or remarks suggesting support for Afghanistan over Pakistan were unacceptable within the parliamentary chamber.

Ayaz Sadiq stated that he would not allow anyone to speak against Pakistan, its armed forces, or the judiciary on the floor of the National Assembly. He added that if defending state institutions was interpreted as breaking the Constitution, he would continue to take such actions.

The Speaker also criticized the opposition leader for what he described as lengthy speeches exceeding the allotted speaking time, arguing that parliamentary rules must be respected by all members.

Concluding his remarks, Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that political differences should not override national unity and declared that all political forces must stand together whenever the interests of Pakistan are at stake.

The exchange marked another tense moment in the National Assembly, highlighting the growing friction between the government and opposition benches over political and constitutional issues.
