US-Iran Technical Talks Conclude Successfully, Agreement Reached on Release of $12 Billion in Assets

BERGSTOCK, Switzerland: Technical-level negotiations between Iran and the United States, held under the framework of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” have concluded successfully, resulting in several significant agreements aimed at easing tensions and promoting regional stability.

According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Iranian state media, both sides agreed to establish four specialized working groups to oversee the phased resolution of key issues. The groups will focus on sanctions relief, nuclear affairs, reconstruction and economic development, and monitoring and implementation mechanisms.

Iranian chief negotiator Baqer Qalibaf stated that the two sides finalized and signed an agreement for the release of $12 billion in previously frozen Iranian assets. He described the move as a major breakthrough in the ongoing diplomatic process.

The negotiations also resulted in an agreement to create a joint coordination mechanism for maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The initiative is intended to safeguard commercial shipping routes and reduce the risk of future military confrontations or diplomatic tensions in the strategically important waterway.

Qalibaf further said that both parties reached a consensus on providing international guarantees for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. He expressed hope that the diplomatic progress achieved during the talks would contribute to a lasting resolution of issues affecting Lebanon.

The Iranian negotiator emphasized that Iran would continue the negotiation process until all of its objectives are achieved, noting that military achievements alone are not sufficient without the economic and political benefits that can only be secured through diplomacy.

The agreements reached in Switzerland are being viewed as a significant step toward reducing tensions and advancing dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
