Rickshaw Driver Arrested for Allegedly Harassing University Student in Lahore

LAHORE: Police in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area have arrested a rickshaw driver accused of harassing a university student after receiving a timely emergency call on the 15 helpline.

According to police, the student had hired a rickshaw to travel to her examination center. However, instead of taking her to the designated destination, the driver allegedly diverted the vehicle to a deserted street.

The student stated that she repeatedly requested the driver to take her to the examination venue on time. She alleged that the driver, identified as Amjad, imposed a condition that he would only let her go if she agreed to meet him after completing her exam.

After finishing the examination, the student reportedly contacted the suspect again while simultaneously informing the police. Acting on the tip-off, Gulshan-e-Iqbal police reached the location and arrested the accused.

Police said that a case has been registered on the complaint of the student’s father, and the matter has been handed over to the investigation wing for further inquiry.

SP Iqbal Town Sidra Khan praised the swift response of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police and reiterated that strict legal action would continue against individuals involved in the harassment of women. She emphasized that such offenders belong behind bars.
