Oil Prices Fall as Positive Progress Reported in Iran-US Negotiations

LONDON: Global oil prices declined following reports of positive progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States, raising hopes for improved stability in the Middle East and reduced risks to global energy supplies.

According to market reports, the price of Brent crude oil fell by more than one dollar per barrel after news emerged of diplomatic advances in the talks held in Switzerland.

Brent crude was trading at $79.44 per barrel, reflecting investor optimism over the possibility of easing regional tensions and improved prospects for a broader agreement between Tehran and Washington.

The decline in oil prices came after Pakistan and Qatar issued a joint statement following the latest round of Iran-US negotiations in Switzerland.

According to the communiqué, the parties agreed to establish a high-level committee to oversee the negotiation process and approved a 60-day roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement.

The statement also confirmed that technical discussions between Iran and the United States will begin immediately, while further negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

Market analysts said that any progress toward reducing tensions in the region, particularly concerning energy exports and shipping routes, could help stabilize global oil markets and ease concerns over supply disruptions.
