UN and World Leaders Welcome US-Iran Peace Agreement, Call It a Major Step Toward Regional Stability

The peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran has received widespread international support, with the United Nations and several world leaders describing it as a significant step toward reducing tensions and promoting a diplomatic resolution in the region.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres congratulated both countries on reaching the agreement, calling it a major milestone in the peaceful settlement of longstanding disputes. He also praised the constructive roles played by Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye in facilitating dialogue and supporting diplomatic efforts.

According to Guterres, the agreement is expected to pave the way for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, while the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will provide much-needed relief to global trade and energy markets.

Meanwhile, the governments of United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy issued a joint statement welcoming the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

The four European nations emphasized that Iran has not been granted permission to acquire nuclear weapons under the agreement. They stated that sanctions relief could be considered if Iran takes credible and verifiable steps to meet its commitments.

The European countries also stressed that the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is essential for the stability of the global economy. In addition, they reaffirmed their full support for the sovereignty and stability of Lebanon and called for continued diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace across the region.
