Karachi Rs30 Billion Cash Van Heist: Crew Chief Found Involved, FIR Registered

KARACHI: Police have registered a case regarding the Rs300 million cash van robbery that took place near Water Pump area in Karachi two days ago, with investigations revealing the alleged involvement of the cash van’s crew chief, Wajid Ali.

The FIR was lodged at Joharabad Police Station on the complaint of security supervisor Ghulam Murtaza. According to the complainant, the cash van staff departed from the company’s office on Tariq Road on Friday morning carrying cash packed in 20 bags.

The cash was being transported by crew chief Wajid Ali, accountant Niaz Ali, driver Waseem, and security guard Akhtar Hussain. Upon reaching the Water Pump area, the company received information at around 9:30 a.m. that the van had been robbed.

The complainant stated that he immediately reached the scene in his private vehicle and obtained details of the incident from security guard Akhtar Hussain. According to the guard, driver Waseem had been instructed by crew chief Wajid Ali to stop the vehicle and purchase some items.

Wajid Ali then stepped out of the van and appeared to be speaking with someone on the phone. Moments later, four suspects emerged from a double-cabin vehicle, with three of them entering the cash van. The robbers allegedly tied the hands of accountant Niaz Ali and guard Akhtar Hussain before seizing the cash.

The FIR further states that Wajid Ali closed the rear door of the cash van during the robbery. The suspects managed to transfer the money in less than three minutes. After the robbery, Wajid Ali allegedly locked the van from the outside.

The victims later managed to free themselves and open the vehicle. Upon stepping outside, they discovered that Wajid Ali and the suspects had already fled the scene.

Police have launched an investigation into the high-profile robbery and are pursuing the suspects involved.
