US Designates Alibaba, BYD, and Baidu as “Military-Linked Companies,” China Strongly Condemns Decision

WASHINGTON: The United States has designated several major Chinese corporations, including e-commerce giant Alibaba, electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, and technology company Baidu, as “Chinese military companies,” according to media reports.

US authorities claim that these firms are allegedly providing support to China’s military. The Pentagon has reportedly added them to a blacklist of Chinese companies identified as having military connections.

In response, China’s embassy in Washington strongly condemned the decision, calling the listing discriminatory and accusing the United States of distorting the concept of national security to target Chinese businesses unfairly.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy stated that Chinese companies operating overseas strictly comply with the laws and regulations of host countries. The spokesperson urged the United States to stop what it called wrongful practices and to create a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese firms.

Meanwhile, Alibaba rejected the allegation, stating that there is no logical basis for its inclusion on the blacklist.
