Quetta to Ensure Foolproof Security and Arrangements During Muharram: Commissioner

Quetta – Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Khan Kakar has said that foolproof security and comprehensive arrangements will be ensured during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram to facilitate mourners and maintain law and order.

He made these remarks while chairing an important meeting regarding security, cleanliness, and other administrative arrangements for Muharram.

The meeting was attended by DIG Quetta Imran Shoqat, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, officials from police, Frontier Corps (FC), relevant departments, representatives of law enforcement agencies, and office bearers of the Shia Conference.

The Commissioner said that Muharram is a sacred and blessed month, respected by all schools of thought, and the purpose of the meeting was to ensure timely and effective arrangements for all days of Muharram, especially Ashura.

During the meeting, representatives of the Shia Conference briefed the authorities about their concerns and requirements. The Commissioner assured that all legitimate issues would be addressed on a priority basis.

He directed concerned departments to immediately complete cleanliness operations along procession routes, including drainage cleaning, road repair, and patchwork. He also instructed that street lights be repaired and proper lighting arrangements be ensured at procession and gathering points.

The Commissioner instructed K-Electric officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly on the 7th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. The Sui Southern Gas Company was also directed to improve the gas supply schedule during the holy month.

The Health Department was ordered to remain on high alert, ensure emergency arrangements in hospitals, and provide additional staff, ambulances, medicines, and first aid facilities. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) was directed to ensure continuous water supply.

Regarding security, the Commissioner said that police, FC, and other law enforcement agencies would work in close coordination to ensure foolproof security arrangements. Sensitive areas, procession routes, and majalis venues will be under strict monitoring.

He added that special security arrangements would be made for mourning processions coming from Machh, Daghari, and other areas, ensuring their safe movement from arrival to return.

It was also announced that a central control room would be established at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where representatives of all concerned departments would remain present 24/7 to respond promptly to any emergency situation.
