Doctor Allegedly Re-Breaks Teen Girl’s Healed Leg After Family Fails to Pay Bribe in India

A doctor in India has been accused of deliberately re-breaking the healed leg of a 14-year-old mentally challenged girl after her family allegedly failed to pay a demanded bribe, according to Indian media reports.

The incident took place in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh state. The victim, the daughter of a widow identified as Reshma, had suffered a leg fracture about one and a half months ago and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to reports, hospital staff allegedly demanded a bribe of 25,000 Indian rupees for the surgery. Under district administration directives, the girl’s treatment was supposed to be provided free of charge. However, her mother was only able to arrange 8,000 rupees, after which the operation was reportedly carried out by Dr. P.K. Chaturvedi.

The controversy emerged when the mother later brought her daughter back to the hospital for a follow-up examination but was unable to pay the remaining amount. The doctor allegedly became angry and, under the pretext of examining the patient, forcefully twisted the girl’s leg.

An X-ray conducted at another hospital later reportedly revealed that the bone, which had already healed, had been broken again.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who are demanding strict action against the doctor. Authorities have been urged to investigate the allegations and hold those responsible accountable.
