Indian Army Helicopter Crashes in Ladakh, Senior Officers Sustain Minor Injuries

An Indian Army helicopter crashed near Tangtse in the mountainous region of Ladakh, according to officials.

Authorities said the incident took place on Wednesday, although details of the crash emerged publicly on Saturday. The helicopter was reportedly being flown by a lieutenant colonel and a major, while the General Officer Commanding of the 3 Infantry Division was also on board as a passenger.

Officials confirmed that all occupants survived the crash and sustained only minor injuries. Emergency medical assistance was provided immediately after the incident.

Military authorities described the survival of all officers in the difficult mountainous terrain as “nothing short of a miracle.”

Following the crash, the Indian Army launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the aging fleet of Cheetah and Chetak helicopters used by the Indian Army, particularly in high-altitude areas such as Ladakh and Siachen, where harsh weather and difficult terrain pose significant operational challenges.
