Proposal under consideration to increase Benazir Income Support payments to Rs20,000

ISLAMABAD (Kuwait News Desk) — A proposal has emerged to increase financial assistance under Pakistan’s Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reportedly recommending an increase of Rs5,500 in payments under the Kafalat Program.

According to sources, the International Monetary Fund mission has suggested raising the total assistance amount to Rs20,000 for eligible beneficiaries.

Officials briefed the IMF delegation in detail regarding data of families registered under the Kafalat Program, while discussions also included the possibility of expanding financial support for low-income households.

Meanwhile, the next phase of budget negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF is scheduled to take place today. During the discussions, three important meetings are expected between officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the IMF mission.

The talks are part of broader negotiations related to Pakistan’s upcoming federal budget and ongoing economic reform commitments linked to the IMF program.
