Man in India Exhumes Sister’s Remains Over ₹19,000 Bank Dispute

In a shocking incident reported from India’s eastern state of Odisha, a man allegedly exhumed his deceased sister’s remains and carried them to a bank in an attempt to prove her death and withdraw money from her account.

According to Indian media reports, the incident took place in Diyanali village. The man, identified as Jeetu Munda, sought to withdraw ₹19,300 that had been deposited in his sister Kala Munda’s account at the Odisha Gramya Bank.

Authorities said the woman had passed away two months earlier. Her husband and only child had also died previously, leaving Jeetu as her sole surviving relative.

When Jeetu approached the bank to withdraw the funds, the branch manager reportedly refused the request, stating that he must either present the account holder or provide a death certificate along with legal inheritance documents.

Lacking both documentation and knowledge of legal procedures, Jeetu allegedly returned to his village, exhumed his sister’s grave, wrapped her remains in cloth, and carried them to the bank as proof of her death. The incident caused shock and panic among bank staff and triggered immediate attention from authorities.
