PM Announces Easy Installment Scheme for Electric Bikes for Government Employees up to Grade 16

Islamabad (Kudrat Daily) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major initiative to promote electric vehicles, stating that government employees up to Grade 16 will be provided electric bikes on easy installments.
The decision was made as part of efforts to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), reduce fuel consumption, and support environmentally friendly policies. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that the promotion of EVs is essential in light of current regional challenges and future energy needs.
According to an official statement, the initiative aims to lower the country’s fuel import bill while enhancing environmental protection and energy security. The Prime Minister directed authorities to ensure full transparency in subsidies provided under the National EV Policy, particularly for low-income individuals and government employees, and to accelerate the implementation of the scheme.
Officials briefed the meeting that 72 manufacturing certificates have so far been issued for electric motorcycles and rickshaws, and four for electric cars. It was also revealed that Pakistan aims to convert 30 percent of its vehicles to electric over the next five years, potentially saving around $4.5 billion annually in foreign exchange.
To support this transition, 123 applications have been received for the establishment of electric charging stations across the country. Additionally, under the Prime Minister’s energy-saving vision, 15 eco-smart electric vehicles have already been inducted into the Islamabad Capital Police fleet.
The meeting was attended by several federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal, Musadik Malik, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, and Owais Leghari, along with other senior officials.
