Delay in Balochistan Selection Board Meetings Halts Promotions, Sparks Bureaucratic Concerns

QUETTA: The prolonged delay in convening meetings of the Balochistan Selection Board has stalled promotions and service matters of hundreds of government officers, creating unrest within the provincial bureaucracy.
Despite the provincial government’s commitment to hold three to four meetings annually, not a single meeting has been convened so far this year, raising questions over administrative efficiency and policy implementation.
According to sources, the Selection Board is responsible for evaluating promotion cases and performance reports of officers from Grade 17 to Grade 20. However, due to continued delays, all related processes remain pending.
Affected officers have expressed concern that many employees nearing retirement may suffer financial losses, including reduced pension and service benefits, due to the stalled promotion process.
Government employees’ associations have urged the Chief Secretary Balochistan to take immediate notice of the situation and convene the Selection Board meeting without further delay to clear pending cases and address growing administrative stagnation in the province.
