PTI Finalizes Candidate for Murad Saeed’s Vacant Senate Seat from KP

Peshawar: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finalized its candidate for the vacant Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, previously held by Murad Saeed.
According to reports, 23 potential candidates had initially obtained nomination papers for the seat, including former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai, PTI provincial leader Dr. Nawaz Khan, Nadeem Alam, and Waqas Okzai. However, PTI leadership has directed that only the officially nominated candidates submit their papers.
The PTI Parliamentary Board, chaired by KP Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, held a meeting to consult on the names. Sources indicated that the opposition suggested Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai for the seat. Other names considered included Irfan Saleem and Faiz-ur-Rehman, with discussions focusing on candidates’ active parliamentary roles.
The Election Commission has set the schedule for the by-election: nomination papers will be checked by April 10, papers can be withdrawn by April 16, and polling will be held on April 23 in the KP Assembly.
PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar emphasized that the party’s nominated candidate and the designated “coring” candidate will submit nomination papers after the parliamentary committee’s announcement, and no other party worker should submit papers independently.
