Punjab Sports Minister Warns Naseem Shah Over Remarks, Suggests Possible Removal

Lahore: Punjab’s Minister for Sports and Energy Faisal Ayub Khokhar has strongly criticized recent remarks made by national cricketer Naseem Shah, warning that disciplinary action could escalate if the player fails to exercise restraint.
Speaking in support of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the minister said that a reported fine of Rs20 million imposed on Naseem Shah was too lenient. He added that if a player does not control his language, he could be removed from the team.
Khokhar emphasized that being a prominent athlete does not justify making inappropriate remarks against the country’s leadership. He also praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for showing restraint in handling the situation, suggesting that stricter action could have been taken.
The minister further stated that the safety and well-being of citizens, including athletes, are ensured due to the efforts of the provincial leadership, reiterating his support for the Punjab government.
