Federal Government Proposes Petrol Subsidy for Motorcycles and Three-Wheelers via QR Code

Islamabad: The Federal Government of Pakistan is considering a major relief initiative to help citizens cope with rising fuel prices. Under the proposed plan, motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles (such as rickshaws) would receive a targeted petrol subsidy of 20–30 liters per month. Subsidized fuel will be distributed transparently through a QR code system, ensuring that eligible users receive the benefit directly.
The initiative is expected to be officially announced soon, providing immediate support to low-income groups. According to the Ministry of Finance, a high-level consultation chaired by Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb reviewed national fuel reserves and current prices, confirming that sufficient supplies are available through May 10.
Final decisions on subsidy allocations and potential adjustments to petroleum prices will be made in an upcoming meeting involving the President, Prime Minister, and the chief ministers of all four provinces. In addition, the federal government has requested 15.4 billion PKR from the provinces as part of fiscal consolidation measures to reduce the national deficit and support economic stability.
