Pakistan to Distribute Petrol According to Quota; Government Developing Digital Rationing App

Islamabad: The Pakistani government has announced plans to distribute petrol to citizens based on a fixed quota, with a digital system currently under development to manage the process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari today at the Aiwan-e-Sadr to discuss including provincial governments in the petroleum subsidy program. Sources said the federal government has already provided PKR 100 billion in subsidies for petroleum products, benefiting citizens nationwide, and talks are ongoing with provinces to share the subsidy burden.
A dedicated mobile application is being prepared, through which citizens can register their vehicle numbers and national ID cards. The app will allocate petrol and diesel quotas to each citizen based on their needs and availability, ensuring daily access according to the fixed quota.
Officials noted that despite rising prices, petroleum consumption has continued to increase, highlighting the need for rationing. The government aims to streamline distribution, promote fair usage, and ensure that subsidies reach the intended beneficiaries.
