Federal Government Educational Institutions to Observe Spring Holidays

Islamabad: The federal government has announced spring holidays for all federal educational institutions. According to the notification, institutions will remain closed from March 24 to March 27 and will reopen on March 30. The spring break has been aligned with the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a forecast regarding the Eid al-Fitr moon sighting, predicting that Eid is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The department stated that the new moon will be born on the morning of March 19 at 6:23 AM, but its age at that time will only be 12 to 13 hours, which is insufficient for visual sighting. Meteorological officials explained that a minimum moon age of 18 to 20 hours is generally required for the crescent to be visible. Therefore, there is no possibility of sighting the moon on March 19.
According to the department, the Shawwal crescent is expected to be sighted on the evening of March 20, making it likely that Eid al-Fitr will be observed on March 21. However, the final announcement of Eid will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
