Iranian Naval Ship in Distress Near Sri Lankan Coast; Rescue Efforts Underway

Colombo: An Iranian naval vessel is facing the risk of sinking near the coast of Sri Lanka, with rescue operations currently underway to save its crew.

According to foreign media reports, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister said that the Sri Lankan Navy was dispatched after receiving information that the Iranian ship IRIS Dena was in distress.

The minister stated that 30 injured sailors have so far been rescued from the vessel and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A total of 180 personnel were reported to be on board the ship.

Authorities said the rescue operation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to safely evacuate the remaining crew members.

Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan opposition leader reportedly questioned whether the vessel had been targeted as part of the ongoing attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel. However, the government has not yet issued any official response to this claim.
