Gas Leak Identified as Cause of North Nazimabad Apartment Explosion, Bomb Disposal Squad Confirms

Karachi: Authorities have completed their investigation into the explosion that occurred in residential flats in North Nazimabad, with the Bomb Disposal Squad confirming that the blast was caused by a gas leak rather than a cylinder explosion.
According to officials, no evidence of a gas cylinder blast was found at the scene. Investigators reported that there were no damaged cylinders or cylinder fragments recovered from the affected apartments.
Abid, the in-charge of the Bomb Disposal Squad, stated that gas pipelines were passing near the building’s lift area. The accumulation of gas in the vicinity led to a powerful explosion, which also caused the lift to collapse.
Preliminary findings suggest that a gas stove may have been left open inside one of the flats. When the gas supply resumed, the apartment filled with gas, eventually igniting and resulting in the explosion.
The incident, which took place yesterday in Block E of North Nazimabad, was followed by a fire. One child lost his life in the tragic event, while four other individuals sustained injuries.
Authorities continue to assess the damage as further legal and safety procedures remain underway.
