Usman Tariq Credits Tennis Ball Cricket for His Unique Bowling Action at ICC T20 World Cup

Lahore: Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq has revealed that his distinctive bowling action, which has caught widespread attention at the ICC T20 World Cup, originated from playing tennis ball cricket during his early years.
Usman Tariq has become a major talking point in the tournament due to his unconventional bowling style. His unusual action has surprised not only fans but also cricket experts around the world. However, the spinner has proven that his technique is more than just visually different — it is highly effective.
In the opening matches of the World Cup, Tariq claimed eight wickets, demonstrating that his unique approach can deliver strong results on the biggest stage.
Speaking to the media, Tariq said he did not expect his bowling action to receive so much attention. “I’m enjoying every moment and I’m happy to be contributing to the team’s success,” he said.
He added that praise from commentators and former cricketers is a great honor for him and that he is determined to continue improving his performances.
Explaining the origin of his bowling style, Tariq shared that he developed it while playing tennis ball cricket. He noted that when his action is viewed in slow motion, the timing appears perfectly balanced, with only a slight variation in speed.
Discussing the Super Eight stage of the tournament, Tariq said Pakistan’s spinners have prepared a clear strategy. He expressed confidence that if the pitch offers assistance to spinners, they will be able to execute their plans effectively.
“Every match is a new challenge, and the team is fully focused on winning the next game,” he added.
Tariq also spoke about his signature headband, explaining that the ball often came in front of his eyes during bowling, affecting his concentration. To solve the issue, he started wearing a headband. With fans appreciating the look, he intends to continue wearing it throughout the tournament.
