Fire at Plastic Factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone Brought Under Control After 11 Hours

Karachi — A massive fire that broke out at a plastic manufacturing factory in the Export Processing Zone of Karachi’s Landhi area was brought under control after 11 hours, while cooling operations are still underway, officials said.

According to authorities, the fire erupted at factories dealing in plastic, old clothes, and shoes. The Chief Fire Officer said the blaze spread from one factory to another, however, firefighters successfully managed to save a third factory from catching fire.

The third-degree fire started at around 8:45pm on Friday night. More than 20 fire tenders and three snorkels from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Pakistan Navy, and Rescue 1122 took part in the firefighting operation.

Karachi Commissioner confirmed that no loss of life was reported in the incident. Officials said an assessment of financial losses is underway, while cooling work continues to prevent the fire from reigniting.
