Saudi Arabia Announces Launch of ‘Camel Passport’ at Global Level

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has announced the issuance of a “camel passport” at the global level, aimed at providing a standardized identification and regulatory document for camels.

According to Saudi officials, the project was inaugurated by Saudi Deputy Minister for Environment, Water and Agriculture, Mansour Al-Mushaiti. The camel passport will serve as a comprehensive identification document to organize and register camels internationally.

Officials said the camel passport includes key details such as a microchip number, passport number, and date of birth. It also contains the camel’s name, breed, gender, color, place of birth, and a photograph for identification purposes.

Saudi authorities further stated that around 2.2 million camels are registered as part of the Kingdom’s national heritage. The Riyadh region has the highest number of registered camels, exceeding 656,000.

The initiative is aimed at preserving Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage while improving documentation, regulation, and international recognition of camels.
