Rajpal Yadav Arrested, Sent to Tihar Jail After Plea Rejected in Cheque Bounce Case

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea seeking an extension of time in multiple cheque bounce cases.
According to Indian media reports, the High Court on Wednesday dismissed Yadav’s request to extend the deadline for his appearance before jail authorities. Following the rejection, the actor presented himself for arrest at Tihar Jail on Thursday.
A jail source confirmed that Rajpal Yadav appeared before prison officials at around 4:00 pm, after which standard legal procedures were initiated.
Earlier, the court had directed the actor on February 2 to surrender by February 4. However, his lawyer informed the court that Yadav had arranged Rs 5 million and sought an additional week to complete the payment. Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma rejected the request, stating that there was no legal basis to grant further relief.
Rajpal Yadav, widely known for his comic roles, has been part of several blockbuster films, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Hungama, Dhol, Chup Chup Ke, Phir Hera Pheri, and Kal Ho Naa Ho, earning widespread acclaim for his performances.
It is pertinent to note that in April 2018, an Indian court sentenced the actor to six months’ imprisonment along with a heavy fine for failing to repay a loan. He was granted immediate bail at that time. In June 2024, the High Court had temporarily suspended his sentence on the condition that he take “serious and genuine steps” toward an amicable settlement with the complainant.
Reports further stated that Rajpal Yadav had borrowed Rs 50 million from a businessman to produce a film. Failure to repay the amount led the businessman to initiate legal proceedings against the actor.
