Saudi Arabia to Issue Passports for Camels to Improve Herd Management

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** Saudi Arabia has announced a plan to issue passports for the millions of camels in the kingdom, aiming to better manage the country’s valuable camel herds.

According to AFP, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture stated that this initiative will enhance productivity and efficiency in the sector and enable the creation of a reliable database for camels.

On Tuesday, the ministry shared a post on social media featuring the green-colored passport, which bears the Saudi national emblem and a golden camel illustration.

As of 2024, Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 2.2 million camels. These animals have historically been an important mode of transport in the Arab world and are also regarded as a symbol of prestige and social status among their owners, giving rise to a profitable breeding industry.

Camel beauty contests, held annually during festivals in Saudi Arabia, attract enthusiasts who spend millions of dollars on their animals. However, some dishonest participants have occasionally attempted to gain an unfair advantage through illegal means.
