Spectacular “Snow Moon” to Light Up the Sky Tonight

A beautiful celestial event, known as the **“Snow Moon,”** will be visible in the night sky today.

According to international media reports, the moon will appear brighter and larger than usual on February 1, earning it the name “Snow Moon.” The US space agency **NASA** has confirmed that the moon will reach its full brightness on **Sunday at 5:09 pm**.

The full moon will be visible low on the eastern horizon around sunset, where it is expected to appear **orange in color** as it rises.

NASA further stated that the Snow Moon, which begins on the night of January 31, will remain visible until **February 2**.

**Why Is It Called the Snow Moon?**

Media reports explain that the name “Snow Moon” comes from **heavy snowfall traditionally experienced in February in North America**. Some Native American tribes also refer to this moon as the **Slate Moon, Wind Moon, or Crow Moon**.
