Major Revision in Residential Rent Allowances for Government Employees, New Rental Ceilings Announced

**Islamabad:** The federal government has revised the ceiling on residential rents for government officers and approved **new rental ceilings** for major cities across the country. The Ministry of Defence has been directed to take the necessary steps to ensure the implementation of this decision.

According to the issued notification, new rental ceilings have been fixed for government officers in **Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta**. These revised limits will apply to officers who arrange their residences on rent privately.

The notification clarifies that any increase in existing rent will be applicable in line with the revised rental ceilings. However, the increase will be limited to the **lower of either the landlord’s demand or the government-approved ceiling**, ensuring that rent does not exceed the officially notified limit under any circumstances.

It further states that rent payments for newly hired residences will not exceed the assessed rental value. The move aims to provide reasonable housing facilities to government officers in view of rising inflation and to ensure greater transparency in rent determination.

Government sources said that the enforcement of the new rental ceilings will establish **clear rules and guidelines** for both government employees and property owners, which is expected to reduce disputes related to residential rents.
