Pakistan Blocks 6.5 Million Blasphemous and Pornographic Websites in One Year

Islamabad: It was revealed during the National Assembly’s question hour that Pakistan blocked 6.5 million blasphemous and pornographic websites over the course of one year through its firewall system.

According to Express News, the disclosure was made during the parliamentary session while discussing web monitoring measures in the country.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Syed Hussain Tariq questioned the effectiveness of the web monitoring system, asking why online fraud websites were not being blocked despite the shutdown of 6.5 million offensive websites. He said that even members of parliament continue to receive traffic violation notices and other scams from fraudulent online platforms, and asked what action had been taken against such websites.

Responding to a separate question, MNA Sajid Mehdi told the House that internet services in Balochistan would improve once the law and order situation in the province is resolved.
