Investigations into Gul Plaza Tragedy Intensify, Major Findings Emerge

Karachi: Investigations into the Gul Plaza fire incident have accelerated, with the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) submitting detailed reports and original files to the Commissioner Karachi, revealing significant findings.

According to sources, the SBCA compiled seven files as part of the investigation. Among these, three files pertain to pending court cases related to the building from 1992, 2015, and 2021, all of which had been stayed by the courts.

The submitted files also include documents on illegal constructions, revised proposals, and building regularization plans. The authority handed over the complete report and files to the administration four days after the review.

The files, submitted for Plot No. 32, PR-01, Preddy Quarters, District South, include court case documents, illegal construction records, detailed reports, and regularization plans. Notably:

Case CP No. 4138/2015 contains 86 pages with notings.

Case CP No. 971/2021 includes 50 pages of details.

Case CP No. 1081/92 has 16 pages with additional notings.

The illegal construction file includes six pages of correspondence.

The revised proposed building plan file consists of 57 pages with six pages of notings.

The main report file contains 135 pages with seven pages of notings.

Authorities say the investigation continues, and the documentation highlights both legal proceedings and violations that may have contributed to the tragedy.
