Field Marshal Asim Munir Stresses Need for Strong, Professional, and People-Friendly Police for Internal Security

Islamabad: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, has emphasized that a strong, professional, and people-friendly police force is essential for internal security and the rule of law.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir visited the National Police Academy in Islamabad, where he met with officers of the Police Service of Pakistan for discussions. Federal Interior Minister and Minister of State for Interior were also present during the visit.

On arrival, the Field Marshal was warmly received by the Commandant of the National Police Academy and presented with a guard of honor by a well-drilled police contingent. He also laid a floral wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial and recited Fatiha, paying tribute to officers who sacrificed their lives to uphold law, order, and public safety.

Field Marshal Munir appreciated the immense sacrifices of police personnel in tackling terrorism, crime, and internal security challenges. During the visit, he received briefings on police training activities, capacity-building measures, and modernization initiatives, including the School for High-Impact Elite Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD). He also interacted with Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

He stated that the police serve as the first line of defense in protecting citizens’ lives, property, and dignity, emphasizing the importance of institutional collaboration, modern policing methods, and public trust. “A strong, professional, and people-friendly police force is indispensable for internal security and law enforcement,” he said, adding that maintaining peace and order is a sacred duty, with the Armed Forces standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the brave police personnel.

Senior police leadership reiterated their commitment to improving policing standards, enhancing professional capabilities, and implementing necessary institutional reforms to address current security challenges.
