Bangladesh’s Firm Stance Forces Pakistan to Review T20 World Cup Plans

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily): A serious situation has emerged regarding the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 involving Pakistan and Bangladesh, as differing positions of the two countries have placed cricket authorities under significant pressure.

The Bangladeshi government and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have categorically announced that they will not play World Cup matches in India, citing security concerns. Taking a firm stance, Bangladesh has decided that its team will not travel to India for the tournament.

Bangladesh has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate its matches to Sri Lanka or any other secure venue. Sources indicate that tensions have further escalated following the exclusion of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL), after which the BCB and the Bangladeshi government adopted a tougher position.

Pakistan has assured Bangladesh of full support on the issue, stating that no country should be allowed to pressure or intimidate another. Pakistani sources have warned that if Bangladesh’s concerns are not addressed, Pakistan may also reconsider its participation in the T20 World Cup, highlighting the seriousness of the matter.

Meanwhile, the ICC is making efforts to manage the situation and is in contact with Bangladesh Cricket Board officials to resolve differences and prevent any disruption to the tournament’s hosting arrangements.

The ongoing dispute is not only affecting the World Cup schedule but is also impacting regional political and diplomatic relations, as less than a few weeks remain before the tournament’s start. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 7, with matches planned in India and Sri Lanka.

Although the ICC has reviewed security arrangements, Bangladesh has maintained its position. Further consultations between the ICC and the BCB have now become essential to avoid potential disruption to the World Cup schedule and ensure smooth conduct of the tournament.
