Electricity Consumers Nationwide to Get Rs0.93 per Unit Relief in January Bills

Islamabad:In a welcome development for electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction of Rs0.93 per unit in electricity prices.
According to a report by a private TV channel, NEPRA has approved the decrease on the basis of fuel price adjustment (FPA) for the month of November. In its notification, NEPRA stated that the reduction was allowed after taking into account variations in fuel costs, with the aim of easing the financial burden on consumers and maintaining price stability.
The notification further said that the relief will be applicable to electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, and will be reflected in their electricity bills for the month of January. However, NEPRA clarified that lifeline consumers will not benefit from this reduction, as they already receive electricity at subsidized rates.
Meanwhile, NEPRA has also approved an increase of Rs1.79 per unit in the average base electricity tariff, effective from January 1. The implementation of this increase, however, will be subject to approval by the federal government.
