Shiv Sena Opposes Participation of Bangladeshi Cricketers in IPL, Draws Global Criticism

Mumbai: The Hindu nationalist party Shiv Sena has announced opposition to Bangladeshi cricketers participating in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, adding to ongoing controversies over politics influencing sports in India.

After similar controversies involving Pakistani cricketers, Bangladeshi players now face restrictions due to what critics describe as the prejudice of extremist groups in India.

Shiv Sena leader Neeraj Sethi, speaking from Haryana, declared that Bangladeshi cricketers will not be allowed to play IPL matches in India. He also warned that continued participation could lead to further restrictions on additional matches.

Analysts say this move highlights the politicization of sports under the current Indian administration, raising concerns about fairness and inclusivity in international cricket tournaments. Critics have accused the party of using sports as a platform for promoting a divisive agenda, undermining the spirit of the game and casting a negative image of India on the global stage.

The announcement has sparked international debate, with observers condemning the intrusion of hate-driven politics into professional sports, further tarnishing the reputation of the IPL as a neutral and competitive sporting platform.
