Lawyer Seeks Suspension of Licenses of Lawyers Involved in Attack on YouTuber Rajab Butt

Karachi – Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, the legal counsel of well-known YouTuber Rajab Butt, has filed an application seeking the suspension of licenses of lawyers allegedly involved in the attack on his client.
The application, submitted at City Court Police Station Karachi, states that within the premises of a Karachi court, Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi, along with his associates, unlawfully stopped Rajab Butt, subjected him to abuse, and carried out a premeditated assault.
According to the application, Rajab Butt sustained serious physical injuries as a result of the violence, with medical evidence and photographs preserved on record. The attackers also forcibly snatched his bag, which was later returned; however, cash amounting to Rs 300,000 was missing, an act described as open theft within court premises.
Mian Ali Ashfaq has requested strict action and suspension of licenses against Advocate Riaz Solangi, Fatah Chandio, and others for allegedly assaulting his client. He stated that the accused lawyers violated the sanctity of the judicial environment, obstructed the course of justice, and not only mistreated Rajab Butt but also behaved abusively with his legal counsel, creating an atmosphere of fear and harassment.
He further alleged that Rajab Butt was taken into the bar room, where he was again subjected to repeated violence, calling it a blatant violation of the law and the dignity of the courts.
According to the lawyer, such conduct has not only harmed his client and his legal team but has also brought disrepute to the entire legal profession, making immediate and exemplary disciplinary action essential.
The application emphasized that the Sindh Bar Council, as the highest regulatory authority for the legal profession in the province, is duty-bound to take prompt and strict action to maintain discipline within the bar and prevent such incidents in the future.
It is pertinent to note that during a court appearance in Karachi a day earlier, a large group of lawyers allegedly assaulted YouTuber Rajab Butt. One of the lawyers involved later released a video message claiming that Rajab Butt had considered himself powerful and fearless, but had “learned a lesson.” He further made provocative remarks, stating that Rajab Butt thought he was in Punjab, not Sindh, and praised fellow lawyers while claiming they had taken “revenge” on him.
