KP Assembly Speaker Seeks Prime Minister’s Support for Implementing Peace Jirga Decisions

**Peshawar:** Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati, has sent the unanimously adopted declaration of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga 2025 to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and requested the federal government’s cooperation for the effective implementation of its decisions to ensure lasting peace in the province.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, the Speaker stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga 2025 was convened after extensive consultations with elected members of the provincial assembly, representatives of various political parties, stakeholders, and relevant institutions. The objective of the jirga was to formulate a joint strategy for promoting peace, stability, and public confidence in the province.
The declaration emphasized that the complex security challenges faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot be addressed through military operations alone, and that sustainable peace requires comprehensive consultation, political consensus, and public trust.
It was noted that all participants of the peace jirga unanimously approved a joint declaration, which has been described as a guiding framework for peace and stability in the province.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati further stated that the Provincial Assembly’s Special Committee on Security will continue this consultative process in the future and will shape upcoming strategies by taking into account the views of all relevant stakeholders, including security institutions.
He urged the federal government to extend full cooperation in the genuine implementation of the peace jirga’s declaration to ensure durable peace, stability, and the protection of life and property of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
