Not All Salt Is Healthy: Experts Reveal the Better Choice

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** Salt, a staple of everyday cooking, affects not only taste but also overall health. However, health experts warn that not all types of salt are the same, and choosing the right one is essential for well-being.

Nutritionists explain that different varieties of salt carry distinct benefits and drawbacks. **Common table salt** is the most heavily processed type. While it is fortified with iodine—an essential nutrient for thyroid function—it lacks natural minerals and may contain added chemical agents.

**Himalayan pink salt** is rich in natural minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium and is often preferred for its flavor. Experts caution, however, that it does not contain iodine and therefore should not be used as the sole source of salt in the diet.

**Black salt** is widely considered beneficial for digestion and is commonly used to enhance the flavor of savory dishes. Due to its strong aroma and distinctive taste, experts recommend consuming it in limited quantities.

Similarly, **sea salt** retains natural minerals, but studies have reported the presence of microplastic particles in some low-quality varieties. Health professionals advise consumers to use only certified and reputable brands.

Medical experts emphasize that moderation is key. Daily salt intake should not exceed **5 grams**, as excessive consumption can increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Experts conclude that a **balanced and mindful use of salt**, tailored to individual nutritional needs, is vital for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
