Pakistani Parliamentarians Warned of Suspension Over Non-Submission of Asset Declarations

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a warning to members of the National and Provincial Assemblies that the final deadline to submit asset and liability statements for fiscal year 2024-25 is December 31, 2025, after which legal action will be taken.

Under Section 137 of the Election Act 2017, all legislators are required to submit detailed declarations of their own assets and liabilities, as well as those of their spouses and dependent children, on the prescribed Form-B every year.

The ECP clarified that the names of members who fail to submit their statements by the deadline will be published via press release on January 1, 2026, and membership will be suspended on January 16 for those who still fail to comply. During suspension, members will be barred from participating in any parliamentary or assembly proceedings.

The commission further stated that false or misleading information in submitted declarations may lead to legal action within 120 days of the submission deadline.

Form-B and related instructions are available free of charge at the ECP Secretariat in Islamabad, provincial election commission offices, Senate Secretariat, and National and Provincial Assembly secretariats, and can also be downloaded from the ECP website.

The Election Commission urged all parliamentarians to submit their declarations within the prescribed timeline to avoid any legal complications.
