Faiz Hameed’s Punishment an Internal Matter of the Army, Says PTI Spokesperson

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declined to comment on the punishment awarded to former ISI Director General Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed, terming it an internal matter of the military.

PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram said that the trial, punishment, and related proceedings involving the former ISI chief fall under the army’s internal accountability system, and therefore the party has no official stance on the matter.

He recalled that when Faiz Hameed was taken into custody, reactions were also sought from PTI at that time, but the party had made it clear that the armed forces have their own mechanisms of accountability.

Sheikh Waqas Akram noted that political elements are being mentioned in connection with the case, which has led some quarters to attempt to link PTI to the matter. However, he said no clear evidence or details have emerged in this regard.

He further pointed out that the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had already stated that the aspect related to the convicted officer’s alleged role in political unrest and instability is being examined separately.

The PTI leader emphasized that until the name of any political figure is explicitly mentioned, there is no justification for making political statements. He added that if any political personality is directly named in the future, the party would respond accordingly.

For now, he said, PTI’s position remains that this is an institutional matter, and it would be inappropriate to comment on it.
