ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to impose a travel ban on several senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders by placing their names on the Exit Control List (ECL) in connection with cases related to the May 9 incidents, sources confirmed.
According to insiders, significant progress has been made in the May 9 investigations, prompting the government to approve the inclusion of prominent political figures on the ECL. The Interior Ministry’s committee forwarded the recommendations, which have now been endorsed by the federal authorities.
The list reportedly includes PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Umar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, Usman Dar, Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Cheema, Kanwal Shauzab, Sheikh Rasheed, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, and retired Major Tahir Sadiq.
Sources further revealed that Raja Basharat, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, and several other individuals have also been barred from traveling abroad.
The Punjab Home Department had sent a detailed list and recommendations to the federal government, following which the decision was taken. The move comes in light of the ongoing legal proceedings and investigations surrounding the May 9 unrest.
