Mob in Karachi’s Orangi Town Lynches Suspected Robber After Citizen Killed During Mugging Attempt

Karachi:A violent incident unfolded in Orangi Town after a citizen was shot dead during a robbery attempt, prompting enraged residents to capture the alleged robber, severely beat him, and set him on fire. The horrifying scene was recorded and widely circulated on social media.

According to police, the robbery took place in Sector 7F, Baloch Goth, within the jurisdiction of Orangi Town Police Station, where a resident identified as Abdul Hannan was killed while resisting a robbery. In retaliation, the mob caught the suspected robber, tied him to an electric pole, brutally assaulted him, and then poured petrol over him before setting him ablaze.

The viral video shows the suspect bound to a pole as the mob tortures him and later burns him alive. Following the incident, SHO Orangi Town Yousuf Mehr was suspended over negligence and ordered to report to West Headquarters.

Police have registered three FIRs. The first concerns the murder of Abdul Hannan and has been filed by his father-in-law, Gul Muhammad Khan, under charges including murder and robbery. The second FIR pertains to the illegal weapon recovered from the deceased suspect. The third case—registered by police—targets 30 to 35 unidentified individuals involved in the mob lynching.

The dead suspect has been identified as Sajid, son of Zareen Dad. Police say efforts are underway to identify those involved in the lynching using mobile phone footage.
